Congratulations to our newly elected Nu Upsilon leaders...

One of the most rewarding ways a member can be involved with the chapter is by becoming an officer or member of the Board of Directors.  Having a direct impact on guiding the chapter and interacting with members is a fantastic experience.  Join us in welcoming these amazing nurses willing to serve our chapter!

Dear Nu Upsilon Members,

Happy spring! This season reminds us of renewal and new beginnings—and it is an exciting time for our chapter as we celebrate the election of our new Nu Upsilon leaders. Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote.

As we welcome new leadership, we also share heartfelt appreciation and thanks to our outstanding Chapter Counselor, Shelly Liu, who is stepping down after more than six years of dedicated service. Shelly’s steady guidance and compassion have helped our chapter grow in meaningful ways. Under her leadership, we expanded our induction ceremonies to be more inclusive—both in person and virtually—while making them even more memorable for our members. Our membership and engagement have increased steadily during her tenure, and her impact will be felt for years to come. While she will be deeply missed on the leadership team, we are grateful that she will remain an active member of our chapter.

I also want to recognize and thank our continuing leaders for the continuity and excellence they provide. In addition, please join me in welcoming our new President-Elect, Dr. Sarah Schroyer. Dr. Schroyer has served as Chair of our Governance Committee and has been an engaged member of Nu Upsilon for several years. We are grateful for her willingness to step into this role and for the thoughtful succession planning that supports the strength of our chapter.

Our chapter has remained very active, and I hope you have been able to take advantage of our expanded educational opportunities. Our Mentorship Committee continues to grow, and the application period for the Chapter Internship opportunity is now open and has been extended through April 27. Please visit our website for additional details.

This time of year, also offers a meaningful opportunity to pause and recognize the collaboration, resilience, and accomplishments that have shaped our journey. None of this would be possible without your dedication and participation, and I am sincerely grateful to each of you.

Wishing you and your loved ones a season of blessings, courage, and continued honor,

Blessings with Love, Courage and Honor

Dr. Smith receives top Sigma award...

.

We are thrilled to announce that our esteemed Membership Ambassador and Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Care Professions (CONHCP), Dr. Lisa Smith, has been awarded the prestigious Melanie G. Dreher Award for Outstanding Chapter Support by SIGMA International! Dr. Smith will be honored at the Tribute Awards Luncheon on Sunday, November 9, 2025, during the Biennium Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

This recognition is truly well deserved. Since stepping into her role as Dean, Dr. Smith has been an unwavering advocate for increasing membership and fostering active engagement within our chapter. Through her leadership and dedication, we have grown from a small chapter of a few hundred members to an impressive community of nearly 2,000 active members. Her impact has been profound, and we are incredibly grateful for her continued support.

A huge thank you to SIGMA International for recognizing Dr. Smith's invaluable contributions!

Please join us in celebrating this incredible achievement!

The origin of Nu Upsilon began at Grand Canyon University in 1987 when the first steering committee met at a Greek dinner to form a nursing honor society. The society inducted 41 members at its first charter meeting in April 1998, using the Sigma Theta Tau International criteria.

The purpose of the society reflected the mission and goals of Sigma and had as its goal to become an official chapter as soon as all the criteria were met.

Nu Upsilon became an official chapter of Sigma Theta Tau in April 1994 and has been an active chapter since that time.

.

The future of Nu Upsilon is bright and promising.

Within the last few years, our chapter has almost quadrupled the size of our membership.  We have partnered with GCU with the goal of becoming the largest and most member-oriented chapter in Sigma.

We would love to have you stay with us and take advantage of Nu Upsilon's volunteer opportunities, scholarships, service projects, and much, much more.  We look forward to exciting times ahead.

We would like to thank all the friends, family and faculty who have supported us throughout the years.  We are honored by your membership, success and dedication.  You made it possible to become the honor society we are now!

Blessings with Love, Courage and Honor
